A Case of Acupuncture Treatment for Physical and Mental Discomfort Caused by Work Stress

Writer: Harika English Harika English

On a weekday evening, a woman in her mid-40s visited our clinic. She had been entrusted with a responsible position at work, but since it was outside her area of expertise, she experienced severe stress and anxiety, leading to insomnia. Additionally, she suffered from neck and shoulder pain, headaches, cold extremities, and hives, showing signs of both physical and mental exhaustion. She had a considerate personality and, despite her fatigue, was courteous and thoughtful even in conversation with me.

Treatment Approach

First, we focused on helping the patient relax by incorporating gentle acupuncture stimulation and warm moxibustion. Additionally, we applied slow massages synchronized with her breathing rhythm to release overall body tension. As the treatment progressed, her once ice-cold feet gradually warmed up, and her body stiffness eased. Eventually, I could hear her gentle breathing, indicating that she had fallen into a deep sleep.

Post-Treatment Changes and Observations

After the treatment, the patient's complexion improved, and her expression became more relaxed. She expressed her delight, saying, "My breathing feels easier, my body is warm, and I feel refreshed."

Additionally, I advised the patient to be mindful of deep breathing in her daily life. Deep breathing helps regulate the autonomic nervous system and enhances relaxation. By practicing slow and deep breathing during work breaks or before bedtime, she can potentially reduce stress and improve sleep quality.

Moving forward, we will continue to support those suffering from stress-related discomfort, helping them regain harmony between mind and body.
